Henry Clay (fl.1772-d.1812), a rare George III black Japanned cabinet, the two doors decorated with scenes of flora and fauna,gold gilt trim, the interior with three long shelves, the inside of the doors stamped Clay King St Covent Garden, H.85.5cm W.95cm D.57cm Note: In 1785 Henry Clay moved his premises to Covent Garden in London, which the above piece bears the stamps for. By 1792 he had claimed the title Japanner to His Majesty.
